Fire and Ice Sparklers are in their 8th season as a special needs cheer team. This team is comprised of athletes ages 5 and above of varying abilities. We welcome children of all special abilities!
The Sparklers are committed athletes! The team practices once a week on Saturdays mornings year round. During practices they work on fine and gross motor skills, self-esteem, and team interactions through activities aimed at developing a comprehensive cheer routine. The team learns the same skills as the competitive cheer teams do: jumps, motions, dance, stunts, pyramid and tumbling. The routine is tailored to the abilities of each individual athlete so that all athletes can participate to the full extent of their abilities and achieve their personal best!
The Sparklers program coaches are all volunteers and previous or current members of the Fire and Ice Gym. Each athlete is assigned a buddy athlete from within our competitive cheer program to help them learn the routine and improve their skills. The Sparklers compete at several local and travel competitions during the course of their season.
The Mission of the Fire and Ice Sparklers is to provide year round athletic training and competition for children and young adults with intellectual and physical disabilities; providing them continuing opportunities to achieve physical fitness, demonstrate courage, achieve self confidence, experience pride and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, fellow athletes and the cheer community.
Practices are Saturdays from 10:30am to 12:00pm at Fire & Ice Gym, 1371 Saw Mill Run Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA.
We welcome athletes to come to a practice to determine if this program fits their needs.
